(KLZA)-- Budget items and salaries were discussed by Nemaha County Commissioners during their August 24th meeting.
U.N.L. Extension Educator Gary Lesoing met with Commissioners, requesting an increase in the budget for telephone and internet service and 4-H Program Support. He requested an increase in the part-time 4-H Assistant’s salary. The County pays 55% of the salary and the University pays 45%. Lesoing requested the County increase their percentage to 60%. Commissioners decided to leave the salary the same as budgeted in the previous fiscal year.
Lesoing explained that when four employees are in the office, the internet service isn’t adequate. Commissioners noted they are considering bundling the internet service for the Veterans Service Officer, Extension Service and Assessor’s Office to save money
Commissioners also voted to increase the salary of the Clerk of the District Courts, Deputy by $5,000. Clerk of the District Court Amy Hector had asked for a $10,000 increase to $25,000 and noted she would like to offer the next Deputy county benefits, which are not currently provided.
The Board authorized Emergency Management Agency Director Renee Critser to advertise for a part-time employee in her office.
Following interviews of candidates for the District 2 Road Department employee position, the Board voted to offer the position to Jacob Morris.
The Board also authorize the County Clerk to advertise for sale, three surplus sheriff’s office vehicles by sealed bid. The bids will be opened September 21st.
