(KTNC)--Flood warnings remain in effect for Atchison, Nodaway, and northern Holt and Andrew Counties in northwest Missouri, after powerful storms packing heavy rain, hail, and a possible tornado pounded the area Tuesday night.
The national weather service posted several tornado warnings last night for all or parts of Atchison, Holt, Harrison, and Nodaway counties.
Law enforcement reported a tornado on the ground shortly after 7:00 p.m. near Maitland. There were no reports of damage, but trees and power lines were down. The city of Tarkio lost power just before 6:00 p.m. as winds with sustained speeds of 70 miles-per-hour blew through.
Interstate 29 remained closed early Wednesday morning between Highway 71 and mile marker 110, and several other smaller highways were flooded as well.
Locations that may experience flooding include Mound City, Tarkio, Craig, Fairfax, Maitland, Rock Port, Savannah, and Skidmore, as well as I-29 between mile markers 85 and 123.
Flood warnings continue for several rivers, including the Tarkio River at Fairfax, the Missouri River at Brownville, Rulo, and St. Joseph, the 102 River at Maryville, and the Nishnabotna River near Hamburg, Iowa.
