(KAIR) -- A 32-year-old Independence, Missouri man has pleaded no contest in Atchison County District Court to an amended child sex charge.
Ronald Heavener entered the plea Friday to a charge of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.
Heavener had originally been charged with aggravated criminal sodomy, which falls under Jessica’s Law and could have resulted in a mandatory life sentence.
He was arrested in late September for having unlawful sexual contact with a three-year-old male in Atchison in February 2012.
Atchison Police were assisted in the case by the Missouri Division of Child Protective Services.
Sentencing is set for March 4th.
Heavener could face 55 to 247 months in prison.
