The city of Wetmore is considering re-establishing a Neighborhood Revitalization Plan. The Wetmore City Council will consider adoption of the proposed plan following a public hearing next Thursday evening at 7 o’clock at the Wetmore City Hall. Rural Development Association of Northeast Kansas Director Nancy Gafford spoke to Nemaha County Commissioners Monday about the plan. The proposed plan would provide a ten-year tax rebate on a sliding scale for improvements to residential and commercial property that result in at least a $5,000 increase in valuation. Gafford will send a copy of the plan to county commissioners for review and approval after the public hearing. Gafford also informed commissioners that a final public hearing needs to be held for a ten year tax exemption for KSI Conveyor’s recent expansion project near Sabetha. The commission agreed to hold the public hearing on April 30th at 10 a.m. She also said they are in the process of getting someone trained within their association as a grant administrator.
In other business, Nemaha County Noxious Weed Director Todd Swart informed commissioners that the lease on the 2009 7130 John Deere tractor used by his department is expiring and he would like to purchase the tractor for $20,262. Commissioners approved the purchase, with the funding to come from the Noxious Weed capital outlay fund.
