Southeast Nebraska Unemployment News Mixed for February

Unemployment rates for counties in extreme Southeast Nebraska were mixed for the month of February.  Unemployment rates were slightly higher in Pawnee, Johnson and Gage counties and slightly lower in Richardson, Otoe and Nemaha counties.
    The biggest change was in Richardson County where the February unemployment rate was down 4 tenths of a percent from January to 6.3 percent.
    In Nemaha County the February rate was down 2-tenths to six percent and in Otoe County the rate dipped a tenth to five percent.
    In Pawnee County the unemployment rate was up 3-tenths to 4.2 percent; Gage County was up 2-tenths to 5.1 percent and the Johnson County rate was up a tenth to 4.3 percent.
    Statewide for February the unemployment rate for Nebraska was still less than half the national average at 4.1 percent.
    Thurston County has the states highest unemployment rate at 8.6 percent, followed by Arthur at 7.9 percent, 7.8 percent in Blaine County, and 7.5 percent in Thomas County.
