While the totals are not yet final, the 7th annual Past Exalted Rulers Association barbecue dinner and Richardson County Cancer Fund auction-fundraiser at the Falls City Elk’s Lodge to benefit the Richardson County Cancer Fund was another big success Saturday night.
Richardson County Cancer Fund President Peggy Davidson says it appears the total from the Saturday night event will exceed $15,000.  That brings the seven-year total from this event to more than $75,000 raised.
While $125 - $150 for a pie is not uncommon during this annual auction there was one outstanding display of giving during the event.
A drawing titled “Life’s Wild Ride” by 21 year old Cancer survivor Allyson Vonderschmidt was the jewel of the auction.  Allyson’s picture of a cowboy riding a bucking bronco sold for $1,400.  The Stalder Cattle Company, Merle Stalder, Lonnie Goff and his sons, purchased the picture.
Prior to the event Allyson explained how she viewed the picture as reflective of her wild ride.  Right after graduation from Falls City Sacred Heart three years ago, Allyson was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer and eventually underwent 40 weeks of chemotherapy and radiation.
Immediately after the successful bidders were revealed, it was also announced that they wanted to return the picture to Allyson.
Mark Fleskoski and Bob Howard served as the auctioneers during the event.
