Agricultural land values are up in area Northeast Kansas counties this year over 2011.
Brown County Appraiser Paula Jones presented county commissioners today ( Monday ) with information from the Property Valuation Division of the Kansas Department of Revenue showing the valuation changes for each county in the state.
Ag land values in Brown County jumped 10.1 percent this year over 2011.
Nemaha County saw the biggest increase in ag land values among area counties—up 10.5 percent.
Elsewhere, ag land values in Doniphan County increased 9.9 percent; Atchison, 8.5 percent; Jefferson, 6.3 percent; Jackson, 4.1 percent and Pottawatomie, up 4 tenths of a percent.
Ag land values are set by the Property Valuation Division of the Kansas Department of Revenue based on an eight-year average of a landlord’s net income.
The Kansas Constitution requires ag land to be valued on its income or productivity. This is commonly called “ use value” appraisal. Ag land is not based on market value.
In other business, commissioners conducted interviews with two candidates for a part-time position in the county appraiser’s office. A third candidate will be interviewed next week and a decision is expected to be made at that time.
