Obituaries Announcements
Phyllis Adair Zibell, 87 of Holton, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Monday, February 10, 2025 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.
Phyllis was born to Walter Edward Tudor and Carrie Ann (Todd) Tudor on June 26, 1937 in Holton, Kansas. She graduated from Holton High School in 1955 and attended Washburn University for one year.
Phyllis married William (Bill) Zibell on October 12, 1956. They celebrated over 68 years of marriage, and were blessed with a son, Gary Zibell (Becky), Holton and daughter, Carrie Hildenbrand (Greg), Lawrence, four grandchildren Kylie Boyd (Chris), Kurt Zibell (Shelby), Grace Demmon (Rick) and Reid Hildenbrand. Phyllis aka Grandma Philly enjoyed her great grandchildren, Madyn, Jayton, Addison, Zoey and Lily and always kept the candy bowl stocked for their visits.
Phyllis was employed at Farm Service Agency 36 plus years, while raising her family and helping Bill on their farm. After she retired, she took a part time job as a PRN Registrar at Stormont Vail Women’s Center for 19 years in Topeka.
Phyllis was a member of Evangel Church, taught (preschool) Sunday School for over 40 years, was on the Church Council, Treasurer for the Memorial Committee and a member of the Seekers S.S. Class.
Community involvement was very important to Phyllis. She helped with 4-H, belonged to the Holton Hospital Auxiliary, Holton Cemetery Board, Maple Grove Club, and NARFE. Belonging to the Pilot Club and Holton Bowling Assn. provided Phyllis with the much-loved opportunity to travel to conventions and bowling tournaments.
Phyllis treasured her family and one of the special ways she showed her love was through food. Sundays, after church, all gathered around the dining room table and basked in her culinary delights. If it was your birthday, she would fix your favorites. Phyllis was a people person. She had the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and was amazing at remembering names. She built friendships and kept them for life. Her high school girlfriends, known as the “Dirty Dozen” through the years have gone on girls’ trips, out for lunch to celebrate their birthdays, and as age crept in, they kept in touch by phone.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Richard Tudor; Edward Tudor; and two sisters, Doris Shoff; and Helen Hunter.
Family will greet friends from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00p.m., Sunday, February 16, at Mercer Funeral Home.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at Mercer Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2025. Burial will follow at Holton Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Evangel Church, sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436. To leave a special message for the family, please visit www.mercerfuneralhomes.com
