Mildred E. Bair, 87, of Seneca, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, surrounded by her extended family.
Mildred Elaine Broxterman was born June 29, in Axtell, Kansas to Estella (Alfers) and Leo Broxterman and raised on the family farm near St. Bridget, Kansas. She attended Sts. Peter and Paul High School and graduated from Baileyville High School. After graduation, she eventually found her way to Topeka, Kansas, working for Security Benefit. Topeka is where Millie met Robert Bair, who was attending CYO dances.
Millie married Robert Earl Bair on February 13, 1960, at St. Bridget Catholic Church. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this coming February. Bob and Millie began their family life in Topeka and then moved to Seneca, Kansas, where they raised their six children. They were faithful parishioners of Saints. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, and the church was always a central part of Millie’s life. The Bair home was open to many family, friends, children, and grandchildren who recalled memories of playing cards, laughter, music, and dancing.
Millie is preceded in death by her parents Leo and Estella Broxterman, Axtell KS. Siblings and in-laws: Infant Kenneth, Lucille (Ernest) Aday, Axtell KS, Betty (Bill) Tappert, Troutdale OR, Leo (Pat) Broxterman, Davenport IA, Ollie (Mildred) Broxterman, Axtell KS, Frank (Doris) Broxterman, Springfield MO, Jim Broxterman, Yamhill OR, and sister, Barbara (Kenny) Heiman, Othello WA, Tony Cummings, Topeka, KS.
Millie is survived by her husband, Bob; daughters Danna (Bob) Vessar, Cummings, KS; Diane (Jerry) Brown, St. Petersburg, FL; Cheryl (Tim) Wisdom, Seneca, KS; and Connie (Matt) Scully, Charlotte NC; and sons Bob, Jr. (Danny) Shervington-Bair, Kansas City, MO; and Christopher Bair, St. Petersburg, FL. She is also survived by her sister Peggy Cummings, Topeka, KS; sister-in-law Marilyn Broxterman, Yamhill, OR; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Millie is also a loving grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be prayed on Friday, January 31st at 7:00 pm at Lauer’s Funeral Home in Seneca. A Mass of Catholic Burial will be offered on Saturday at 10:00 am at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, with burial following in the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Seneca, KS.
In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted for Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School.
