Helen Louise Babcock, 98, of Nortonville passed away Monday, January 6, 2025 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.

She was born January 26, 1926 at Nortonville, the daughter of David Paul and Helen Elizabeth( Bertels) Chmidling. She attended Schools in Nortonville and was a1944 graduate of Nortonville High School. “Louise” worked many jobs through her life including the Sunflower Ordnance Center in DeSoto, United Telephone Co in Nortonville, the former Jefferson County Geriatric Center, now F.W. Huston Senior Living, in Winchester, Village Villa of Nortonville. She retired in 1988 as Cook Manager for JCN Schools. She was a member of Nortonville Pleasant Grove Christian Church, Atchison V.F.W. Aux and American Legion Aux Unit #36 of Oskaloosa and served as a Volunteerfor several organizations.

“Louise” was married to Osmond “Ozzie” Polan Babcock on May 18, 1946 at Kansas City, KS, he preceded her in death on June 5, 2002. She was also preceded by a daughter, Linda Jane Black, a grandson, Arlyn Babcock , two sisters, Mary Anne Chmidling, Mildred Peine, five brothers, Eldon Chmidling, Daniel Chmidling, Jerome Chmidling, Francis “Frank” Chmidling and David “Bus” Chmidling.

Survivors include a daughter, Lana (David) Aspinwall, Nortonville, two sons, Phil (Verna) Babcock, Papillion, NE, Larry (Diane) Babcock, Nortonville, one brother, Harold Chmidling, Collinsville, OK, 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and close friend and companion, George Larison, Oskaloosa.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, January 13, 2025 at Nortonville Pleasant Grove Christian Church. Burial will follow at Nortonville Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 PM, Sunday, January 12, 2025 at Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa.
