Clara Patricia Niehues, 76, Wetmore, KS, went to her heavenly home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 5th, 2024 following a brief illness at a Topeka hospital.
Clara was born at home south of Baileyville on August 1, 1948 to Raymond and LaVerne (Mulryan) Lierz. She attended and graduated from Baileyville High School in May, 1966. After high school she worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield until she married the love of her life.
She worked alongside her husband on the farm and was a homemaker until she went to work at the Wetmore Hardware, Help the Farmers, Onaga Hospital, Medicalodges, Parallel Farms, and most recently Community Healthcare Systems of Onaga in Holton, KS. She also found time to help her husband with their sprinkler system business, N-Line Lawn Service.
She attended and was a very active board member and secretary of the New Hope Family Church, Holton, KS.
She married Glen Niehues on April 8, 1967 at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville, KS; they celebrated over 57 years of marriage.
Clara started each day reading her Bible and spending time in prayer. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and was amazing in the kitchen. She spent her free time crocheting blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Clara is known for her BBQ sauce and enjoyed making and selling “Clara’s Sweet and Sassy BBQ Sauce”. Over the years she cherished the trips she was able to take with family and friends to Arizona, California, Hawaii, Ireland, and Washington, DC, unfortunately there were a few left untaken.
Her favorite time was spending the holidays with her family, “Girls’ days” with her daughters, attending her grandkids’ events and watching the KC Chiefs, KC Royals and KU Jayhawks games.
Clara is survived by her husband of the home and her six children, Jennifer (Steve) Strathman, Circleville, KS; Sherri (Kent) Proffit, Seneca, KS; Keith (Deb) Niehues, Sabetha, KS; Stanley (Gina) Niehues, Holton, KS; Tonia Evans, Wetmore, KS; and Monica (Royce) Becker, Corning, KS who will miss her immensely.
