Robert Plattner, 63, of Sabetha, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, after a brave battle with cancer at his apartment at the Apostolic Christian Retirement Village in Sabetha.

Robert was born in Sabetha on December 1, 1960, the ninth child of eleven children born to Walter and Joyce (Warrick) Plattner. Robert grew up on the family farm north of Sabetha, where he nurtured a deep connection to the land as a farmer and cattleman. During high school, Robert was an athlete who participated in basketball and football. He graduated from Sabetha High School in 1980. His love of sports continued throughout his life, and he was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals.

Robert found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed music, watching sports, and drinking Mountain Dew. His loyal dogs were his faithful companions as he ran errands in Sabetha and worked around the farm. Robert was known to have a watchful eye on the weather, and was always eager to learn about the rainfall totals from others in the area. He had a deep appreciation for his community and the people in it. He genuinely cared for others, and treated them with respect and compassion, never hesitating to lend a helping hand. Robert’s infectious smile and laughter, made it impossible not to laugh and smile along with him.

Robert fought his illness with remarkable strength and unwavering faith. He took comfort in knowing that he was going to be with Jesus, and his belief in eternal peace carried him through his battle. Now, Robert is safe in the arms of Jesus, free from pain and suffering.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Gail, and his sister-in-law, Marge Plattner.

Although Robert never married and had no children, he was a loving brother to his four brothers and five sisters. Robert is survived by his nine siblings, Jim Plattner of Sabetha; Eileen (Kenny) Ellerman of Nortonville, Kansas; Neil Plattner of Sabetha; Erma (Fred) Thorne of Tonganoxie, Kansas; Ellen (Gerry) Hertzel of Sabetha; Randy (Sheryl) Plattner of Sabetha; Laura (Gary) Pyle of Morrill, Kansas; Gary (Denise) Plattner of Sabetha; and Becky (Tom) Rokey of Fairview, Kansas.
