Richard Lee Fields, 75, of Netawaka, KS, passed away Sunday, October, 6, 2024 in Netawaka, KS. He was born October 5, 1949 in Onaga, KS the son Roscoe Russell and Esther Viola (Baker) Fields. He graduated from Onaga High School in 1967.
Richard worked at Morton Buildings, Inc. from 1977 - 1990. He also worked at Jackson Heights High School as head custodian from 1990 - 2000. He worked for over 14 years at the Prairie Band Casino as a slot attendant, retiring in 2014.
He donated his time working as the sexton at the Netawaka Cemetery, he was also on the Netawaka Fire Board for over 15 years and a member of the Larkinburg Christian Church.
Richard enjoyed fishing, metal detecting and gold panning. He was an avid sports fan, especially KSU. Despite battling polio twice (at the ages of 1 and 5), Richard loved to play baseball. He was a pitcher for the Havensville and Onaga baseball teams. Most of all, Richard loved spending time with his family and friends, especially attending his grandchildren’s activities.
Richard married Deloras Ann Cattrell on August 13, 1997 in Miami, OK. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his children, Mary Hildebrant (Jonathan) of Norwell, MA, Sarah Smith (Perry) of Wetmore, KS and David Cashman (Jenny) of Topeka, KS. A sister-in-law, Teresa Fields of Topeka, KS and brother, Bob Fields (Tammy) of Greeley, CO. 10 grandchildren, Jonathan Hildebrandt, Jr., Heyden Hildebrandt, Grace Hildebrandt, Brooks Hildebrandt, Nicholas Hildebrandt, Newton Smith (Gracie), Sydney Smith, Isabelle Smith, Adyson Cashman and Taitum Cashman.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Steven Fields and Terry Fields; a grandson, Curtis Smith.
Private family inurnment will be at the Larkinburg Cemetery. Family will greet friends Sunday, October 13, 2024 from 1 - 3 p.m. at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials may be given to the Netawaka Fire Department c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
