Edward Leo “Ed” Hund, 96, of Meriden, died Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at his home.

He was born October 17, 1926 at Leavenworth, the son of Francis Joseph and Mary Katherine Schmina Hund. Ed was a farmer all his life and also worked as a tuber operator at the Goodyear Company in Topeka for 31 years, retiring in 1982. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army Engineers from March 30, 1945 to November 20, 1946. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council of the Church. He was a lifetime member of Meriden V.F.W. Post #10815.

He married Avis Jean Edwards on February 2, 1949 at Leavenworth, she preceded him in death on August 5, 2002.

Survivors include two sons, Frank Hund, Meriden, James Edward (Jim Peterson) Hund, Meriden, seven daughters, Katherine (Frank) Serio, Harvey, LA, Avis (Wayne) Fletcher, Meriden, Linda (Jim) Cummings, Meriden, Connie (Tom) Rangel, Topeka, Janet Hund-Bigley, Meriden, Joyce Harden, Meriden, Lora Hund-Gutierrez, Meriden, one brother, Robert Hund, Beverly, MO, 27 grandchildren, 50 plus great-grandchildren and 20 plus great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Gregory, three sisters, Monica Fink, Eleanor Parr, Rita Dahl and two brothers, Lawrence Hund and Myron Hund.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Meriden. Burial will follow at St. Aloysius Cemetery. Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:00 PM, Monday, June 12, 2023 with Visitation from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at the Church.
