Betty Jean (Scheidegger) Moore, 94, of Holton, KS, died Saturday, January 28, 2023 at the Presbyterian Manor in Topeka, with family by her side. She was born June 1, 1928 in Delia, the daughter of George and Gertie (Flanders) Scheidegger.

Betty graduated from Soldier High School in 1946. She taught 4 years in country schools in Jackson County, worked as a mail distributor for WIBW, worked for J.C. Penny- in Holton, 2 years for BMB and managed Cypress Glenn Apartments for 4 years. Betty also assisted her husband on the family farm most of her life.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School. She was 30 year member of Pilot Club - serving as District Governor for Pilot Club International, a member of Holton Business Women and the Happy Hour Club in Larkinburg.

Betty married Albert Duane Moore on August 21, 1949 in Soldier, KS; he preceded her in death on September 11, 2005 after 56 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents, George and Gertie Scheidegger; daughter, Janis Tapley and 3 brothers; Dale and Fred Scheidegger and infant brother, Clarence.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Sandra Biber (Gary) of Topeka, KS and Kathleen Stephen (Dennis) of Broken Arrow, OK; a son, Gregory Moore; 2 sisters; Lois Johnson and Elsie Ingels both of Topeka, KS; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.

Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow at the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from noon until service time at the funeral home.
