Carolyn Hilgenfeld

Carolyn Hilgenfeld, 73, of Lincoln, NE, passed away June 26, 2022 at Lincoln at Bryan West Hospice, attended by Mindy and Monica, two wonderful nurses that deserve a very special thanks. She was born May 8, 1949 at Sabetha, KS to Eugene and Pansie (Brunner) Chandler.

She married Don Hilgenfeld on April 5, 1969 at Hiawatha, KS

Carolyn attended school in Morrill, KS, Gravois Mills, MO and graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1968. When married the couple established their home in Gulfport, MS until Don’s deployment to Vietnam. She returned to Hiawatha in the fall of 1969 and to the family farm located on the Kansas-Nebraska state line following don’t discharge from service. They later moved back to Hiawatha when Don began trucking over the road. They moved to Beatrice, NE in 1980 and to Lincoln in 2012 where she resided at the time of death.

She enjoyed traveling around the Midwest to her daughter’s softball games for many years. She really enjoyed her grandchildren; baby sat and took care of them often. Family was very important to her and made many trips to Lincoln from Beatrice before moving there. She also enjoyed her son Scott’s family as they traveled around the world as international school teachers and their many other excursions they took in that process. She enjoyed following their documentation on Facebook. She also enjoyed scrapbooking and crafting, traveling and taking many trips, including; Grand Canyon, CO, Smoky Mountain and Blue Ride Parkway by motorcycle, Niagara Falls; both the U. S. and Canada side and up the California Coast Highway from Hearst to Golden Gate and to the Giant Redwood Forest which were bucket list trips. She also enjoyed many trips with her husband while he drove a semi truck.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Don of Lincoln, children, Michelle Dewes and her husband Doug of Lincoln, Scott and his wife Ivy of Monessen, PA, grandchildren, Chandler, Chase and Mikala Drewes and Azarya “Zoe” Hilgenfeld, brother, Steve (Kathy) Chandler, sisters: Connie (Duane) Widman, Christine Chandler-Ballew, Cindy (James) Reynolds, sisters-in-law: Linda Chandler, Pat (Bob) Stowers, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews all which meant the world to her. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gary Chandler in 2017.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Hader officiating. Interment will be in Zion-Bethel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
