James " Jim" Fund

James “Jim” LaVere Fund, 79, of Horton, KS, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2022 at his home. Jim was born March 10, 1943 in Sabetha, KS, the son of Mirl Edwin and Amanda Jane (Potts) Fund. He was raised in Goff where four of the twelve students in class were his cousins!

As a teenager, he worked as a farm-hand for Joe and Alice Patterson, who later became his in-laws.

Jim was a wonderfully kind and soft-spoken father to his four children he raised with his first wife, Marsha, on their farm in Netawaka.

He worked as a welder at BMB, painted homes and barns all over NE Kansas, and worked at Jackson Farmers’ Coop for over 31 years retiring as Store Manager.

He loved animals and woodworking, making all types of bird and squirrel feeders and was admired by family and mail carriers alike for his elaborate barn mail boxes. He enjoyed his retirement in Horton with wife, June (Cattrell) Fund.

Jim married June Cattrell on September 4, 1992 at Whiting Lake. They have celebrated over 29 years of marriage.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Amanda and Mirl Fund and children, William and Joe Fund, step-father Ed Nonnast, and step-brother, Lonnie Nonnast.

He is survived by his wife, June of the home; brother, Jodie Fund of Emporia, KS; step-brother, Bill Nonnast (Linda) of Hiawatha, KS; children, Marsene Feldt (Nate) of Lawrence, KS, Charlene Moran (Richard) of Topeka, KS, Scott Fund of Holton, KS; daughter-in-law, Andrea Brock (Fund) of Oldsburg, KS; step-children, John Webster (Michelle) of Holden, MO, and Mike Webster (Annie) of Kansas City, MO.

Jim’s grandchildren; Maverick and Atticus Feldt; Allyson Shughart, Trent and Grace Moran; Ashten Jackson, Cody and Colton Fund; Blake and Ethan Fund; Adreann West (Garrick), Whittney Webster (Norman), Tivona and Zach Webster; Cassi and Colby Stuckman; great-grandchildren, Ava and Liam Jackson, Easton Shughart, Gabe West, Ella Cartujano, Konstantine, Shayleigh, and Hayven Webster.

Graveside Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Fairview Cemetery in Goff, KS. Jim will lie in state at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday & Wednesday, June 28th and 29th.
