Michael Carroll Holcomb, 58, of Holton, KS, passed away Friday, March 19, 2021 at his home, with family by his side; after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 29, 1963 in Elkin, N.C., the son of Fred C. and Carol (Vestal) Holcomb.

Michael graduated from North Wilkes High School at Hays, N.C. in 1981. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1983 to 1989. He lived most of his life in Thurmond, N.C.; he moved to Holton in 1994. Michael was a machinist for BNSF Railway in Topeka for 22 years; retiring in 2019. 

He was a member of I.A.M. Local Lodge #378 in Topeka, American Legion Post 44 and Holton American Legion Riders.

Michael married Alice Faye Holcomb on April 5, 1985 in Dawson Springs, KY. She preceded him in death on October 7, 2020; after 35 years of marriage.

Survivors include 3 sons, Shane Duncan (Joy) of Topeka, KS, Clinton Duncan of Holton, KS and Jason Duncan (Marty) of Morton’s Gap, KY; daughter, Ashley Boyle of Hiawatha, KS; sister, Maj Anne Wood (Tim) of Thurmond, N.C.; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.

 Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 25, 2021 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Holton Cemetery. Michael will lie in state Tuesday, March 23, 2021 and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
