Edward "Ed" Navinskey

Edward " Ed" Navinsky , 87, formerly of Cummings, died Thursday, October 22, 2020 at F. W. Huston Nursing Center, Winchester, Kansas after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s. 

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Mooney Creek, with Father Jeremy Heppler, OSB as celebrant.  Interment will follow in Corpus Christi Church Cemetery.  A parish rosary will be recited Friday, October 30, at 5:30 PM in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 7PM. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 28th.   Memorial contributions are suggested to Corpus Christi Church Building Fund or Jefferson County Hospice and may be left in care of the funeral home.  

Ed was born May 14, 1933, in Easton, Kansas, the son of William and Dorothy (Hampton) Navinskey.  He graduated from ACCHS in 1950.

He and Joan Schrick were united in marriage on July 9, 1951, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Mooney Creek and were married for 61 years.  Joan passed away February 13, 2013.

Ed was a farmer his entire life.  He operated a Holstein Dairy Farm until 1974.  He raised cattle, hogs, and farmed row crops. 

Ed was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks and Dairy Herd Improvement Association.  He was a Mount Pleasant Township Trustee for a number of years and he served on the ASCS County Committee.  He and Joan were presented the Soil Conservation Award in 2007.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing cards, traveling, gambling in Las Vegas, and drinking with friends.  His greatest enjoyment were his grandkids and great grandkids.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, and his daughter, Cindy Dooley.  Survivors include three sons, Mike Navinskey, Atchison, Mark Navinskey, Effingham, Scott (Lori) Navinskey, Atchison, four daughters, Terry (Ross) Montgomery, Effingham, Shelly Ludwig, Denham Springs, LA, Connie Watkins, Arlington, TX, Brenda (Randy) Dvorak, Weston MO, four sisters, Francis (Robert) Handke, Atchison, Carol (Dick) Erpelding, Atchison, Ginger (Harold) Schrick, Winchester, Janet (Ronnie) Myers, Cummings, two sister-in-laws, Frieda Navinskey, Atchison and Rita Navinskey, Nortonville, 21 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. 

Ed’s go to clothing was a pair of bib overalls therefore the family requests casual attire.
