Millard DeVere Winter, 81, Valley Falls, died Monday, March 30, 2020 at home. 

He was born May 24, 1938 at Denison, the son of Harold Leo and Vera Ruth (Carey) Winter. He was a 1957 graduate of Valley Falls High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving as an active reserve 1956 to 1962. Millard worked as an over the road trucker and “hay hauler”,  logging more than four million accident free miles in his career.  He was a member of Ozawkie United Methodist Church. He was married to Ruth Ellen Kirkham on April 5, 1959 at Ozawkie, she preceded him in death on August 8, 2015.

He is survived by three sons, DeVere (Rita Henderson) Winter, Carbondale, Pete Winter, Valley Falls, Andrew Winter, Effingham, six daughters, Ellen (Darrell) Hug, Mayetta, Brenda (Rex) Lloyd, Valley Falls, Angela Morrow, Valley Falls, Cheryl Winter, Topeka, Jana Winter, Valley Falls, Jill Penry, Valley Falls, 26 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Leola Baker and Bonita Lavin.

A Grave Side Service will be 1:00 PM, Thursday, April 2, 2020 at the Bloomfield Cemetery, rural Meriden.  Mr. Winter will lie in state from  2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa. * Please note, We will follow  the guidelines of Jefferson County and State of Kansas with social distancing for the health and welfare of all.  Memorials suggested to St. Jude’s Research Center in care of the Funeral Home, P.O.
