Margaret Mullin

Margaret Irene Mullin, 87 passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, November 17, 2019.  Margaret was born on May 5, 1932 at her grandparent’s hotel (William and Mary Sebring) in DuBois, Nebraska.  Her parents, Henry and Maude Triska, farmed near DuBois where they resided on various farms.  Margaret attended East Start Country School, then Union School, and in 1950 she graduated from DuBois High School.  After graduation, she worked at the old Pawnee Hospital as a nurse aid and lived in the hospital annex.

On New Year’s Day in 1954, she was married to Jerome “Jerry” Mullin in a double ring ceremony with her sister Beverly and Byford Thomas at the DuBois Church.

They resided on a farm south of Pawnee City where their  two daughters, Elaine and Carol were born.  Margaret continued to work at the Pawnee Hospital, until poor farming conditions caused Jerry to take a job assessing various counties.  At that time living in a 38 ft. trailer home pulled by a 1954 Buick.  They then moved to Little Rock, Arkansas where their son Roy was born.  Jerry’s job also took them to Leavenworth, Kansas and Missoula, Montana for several years.  In 1961, Jerry’s wish to go back to farming brought them back to Nebraska to the farm where Margaret was raised.  Jerry spent time remodeling a nearby farm house where they lived until her passing.

Margaret loved her family, her church, gardening and cooking.  She babysat all the neighbor kids, which included the Kosek and the Zelenka children, also her granddaughter Michelle who spent many summers on the farm with them.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Maude Triska, her husband Jerry on February 24, 2001, brother-in-law Byford Thomas, brother LaVern Triska, and Sister Beverly Geschwender.

She survived by her daughters, Elaine, Carol (Tom) Mullins, son Roy, Granddaughter Michelle (Bryan) Rapp and great grandsons, Kevin, Zakery and Tyler Rapp, sister-in-law Sharon Triska, brother-in-law Mark Geschwender.  She leaves many nieces and nephews, Carmen, Denise, Kevin, Brenda, Patty, Jeff, Debbie, Dennis, Julia and special neighbor kids, Christina, Charlotte and John James.

Services 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 25, 2019 at the United Methodist Church, Du Bois, Nebraska. Officiating Pastor Kim.  Visitation on Sunday, November 24, 2019 from Noon-8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska.
