Richard “Dick” Dale Bruns, 86, of Holton, KS, passed away Friday, November 8, 2019 at The Pines. He was born June 1, 1933 in Denison, KS; the son of William Wren and Eve Blanche (Williams) Bruns.

Dick graduated from Whiting High School in 1951 and attended 2 years at K-State. He ran a bulldozer for Delbert Braum of Denison in his earlier years and later worked for Goodyear Tire Company as a tire-builder; retiring after 35 years.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holton; serving for many years as head usher. He was a former member of the Holton Eagles Club.

Dick married Darlene Gay Christie on March 13, 1954 in Topeka, KS; they celebrated over 65 years of marriage.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene Bruns of the home; 2 daughters, Debra Clark (Gene) of Holton, KS and Cynthia Butler (Tim) of Huntersville, NC; 5 grandchildren, Matthew Clark, Christi Schumaker (Samuel), Scott Butler (Neva), Kimberly Clark, Elizabeth Dove (David) and 11 great-grandchildren.

 He was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Weckman and 2 brothers, William and Larry Bruns.

In 2005, Dick had a kidney transplant. The kidney was from a 7-year-old boy from Wisconsin, Noah Ziepke. We appreciate the extra years of life he was given from the transplant.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 14, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Holton. Burial will follow at the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at the church. Richard will lie in state at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton beginning Tuesday afternoon.
