Joyce Marylyn Stewart, 84, formerly of Brownville, Nebraska was born on September 14, 1934, to Emil and Leona (Bateman) Vampola in Omaha, Nebraska.  She was raised in Omaha, Nebraska where she attended Jungmann grade school and later graduated from Omaha South High School.  On October 29, 1955, Joyce was united in marriage to Rolland Stewart.  The couple moved to Auburn, Nebraska in 1955 and resided there until moving to Brownville in 1972.  While living in Brownville, Joyce and Rollie worked together on excursion riverboats called “Belle of Brownville “and “The Spirit of Brownville”.  Joyce then worked as a sewing machine operator for King Louie International from 1986 until retiring in 1996.  She was a former member of the United Methodist Church in Brownville and in her spare time enjoyed gardening, reading and sewing. 

Joyce passed away on Friday, July 12, 2019, at the Plattsmouth Care and Rehabilitation in Plattsmouth, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of eighty-four years, nine months and thirty days. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, husband Rollie, granddaughter Jessica Kish and brothers Norman and Emil Vampola.

Those left to mourn her passing are her loving daughters: Joyce Dean and husband Dean of Auburn, NE; Vicki Stewart of Brownville, NE; grandson Rolly Stewart and his girlfriend Sarah Johnson of Brownville, NE; great-grandsons Derex and Jacob Kish of Stella, NE; step-grandsons: James Dean of Lincoln, NE; Jacob Dean of Exeter, NE; brother-in-law Terry Stewart of Wilber, NE; sister-in-law Mary Alice Vampola of Omaha, NE; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Graveside Inurnment Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2019, at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Brownville, Nebraska with Pastor Bob Chitwood officiating. A reception will follow services at the Town Hall in Brownville.

Memorials contributions may be given to the family’s choice with a later designation.
