James " Jim" Craig, Jr.

James William “Jim” Craig, Jr., 70, of Holton, KS, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Medicalodge Jackson County. He was born November 22, 1948 in Goodland, KS, the son of James W. “Bill” and Sylvia M. (Cody) Craig.

Jim graduated from Holton High School in 1967 and attended Highland Community College earning his Accounting Degree. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1967 -1971, during the Vietnam Era.

He lived in the Holton Community for over 60 years. He also lived in Manhattan, Wetmore and Kanorado. Jim worked as a mechanic for Clark’s Chevrolet, Eubank’s Chrysler Plymouth, Alamo, BMB and Rhino. He also worked for his family businesses, Craig’s IGA and Craig’s Sanitation. Jim later worked for Ron’s IGA.

He was a former member of the First United Methodist Church, lifelong member of NRA and Holton V.F.W. Post 1367.

Jim married Debra (Ray) Davis on October 1973; they later divorced.

Survivors include his 2 children, Rachel Sweany (Roger) of Denison, KS and Michael Craig of Holton, KS; his brother, Jeff Craig of Holton, KS; his sister-in-law, Terry “Bert” Craig of Holton, KS and 5 grandchildren, Samantha and Anika Beachamp, Hannah Hodge, Kayela and Ryan Craig.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Janice Craig Jameson and his brother, Jerry Craig.

Memorial Service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time.
