Leslie "Chick" Hale "Wag Gesh G'Muk", 75, of Hiawatha, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 surrounded by his wife, children, and loving family at the Hiawatha Hospital.

He was born on July 11th, 1943 at home in Topeka, Kansas to Jessie William Hale and Alfredia Williams Hale.  Chick graduated from Whiting High School in Whiting, Kansas and went on to enlist in the United States Army with an honorable discharge in 1965.

Chick served as Tribal Chairman for the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, and was instrumental with Tribal programs and entities on State, Federal, and Local levels. He took pride in advocating in Native American Rights and Sovereignty Issues throughout Native America. His voice could be heard throughout the pow wow trail as he was Honorable MC throughout his life. Most notably could be heard on the microphone at the Golden Eagle Casino in Horton, Kansas until his retirement in May of 2015. He was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi and enrolled Kansas Kickapoo Tribe.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Bertha Mijessepe of the home; 3 daughters, Sherry Hale, Sabetha, Kansas, Corinna Hale-Ross( Joseph Ross, Sr.) Lawrence, Kansas, Voneen Hale and companion Anthony Juliano, Lawrence, Kansas; two sons, Jeremy Hale, Hiawatha, Kansas, and Solon Jessepe, Omaha, Nebraska. Two sisters, Marilyn Wakolee, Mayetta, Kansas, and Arnetta Hale, Topeka, Kansas. Fifteen grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Chick is proceeded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Weslie Hale, brother, Jessie "Bonce" Hale; Sylvia Hale Kahbeah, daughter, Geneva Jo Hale, and grandson Jorden Rylee Hale.

Drum services will be at 6:00 on Saturday evening, December 15, 2018 at Kickapoo Community building. Burial will be at 9:00 Sunday morning, December 16, 2018 at Kennekuk Cemetery on the Kickapoo Reservation. A special message may be sent to the family at www.dishon-maple-chaney.com
