Luther Anderson, 90, of Hiawatha died peacefully in his sleep Sunday morning, December 9, 2018 at the Maple Heights Nursing Home.

Luther was born in Robinson, KS, July 8, 1928 to Daniel and Anna Lieneman Anderson and was raised in the Robinson area.  He graduated from Robinson High School in 1946.  He married Betty Jane Stoffer September 11, 1949 at the Upper Wolf Lutheran Church, rural Robinson.  They farmed near Robinson until moving to Hiawatha in 1974.  She preceded him in death March 3, 1999.

They farmed for 10 years before Luther took a job with the Robinson Coop where he worked for 13 years.  He worked for John Deere in Hiawatha for 18 years and drove a school bus for USD 415 for 11 years.

Luther was a volunteer Fireman for Robinson and Hiawatha for a total of 41 years.  He also worked for Howard Auction Service for many years.
He was a member of the Upper Wolf Lutheran Church before transferring his membership to the Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha.

Luther enjoyed volunteering at the American Legion Baseball Field, woodworking, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He also enjoyed supporting the Hiawatha High School athletes at almost every event he was able to attend.

He was preceded in death by a son; Dennis Neal Anderson in 1959, a sister and brother in childhood Janette and Arthur Anderson, two brothers; Donald and Oscar Anderson, and his two sons-in-law; Woody King and Paul Rockey.

Luther is survived by his two daughters; Connie King and Nancy Rockey both of Hiawatha, KS, three grandsons; Justin Yingling of Ogden, UT, Brady (Michelle) Rockey of Clemmons, North Carolina, and Bryan (Mandy) Rockey of Hiawatha, KS, five great-grandchildren; Alex, Ashton, Payton, Pauly, and Sydney Rockey.

Funeral Services are planned for 11 a.m., Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha.  Pastor Michael Dunaway will officiate.  Interment will follow at the Upper Wolf Lutheran Church Cemetery southeast of Robinson.

Friends may call the funeral home after 10 a.m. Wednesday.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Thursday from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.  Memorials are suggested to the American Legion Baseball Team and may be sent in care of the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home 124 S. 7th St., Hiawatha, KS  66434.
