Marilyn " Jeanne" Meyer

Marilyn "Jeanne" Meyer, 90, of Fairview, died Thursday morning, October 19, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.

Jeanne was born at Meno, Oklahoma, September 8, 1927, born to George Sterling and Rettie Buell Saylors Brown. She graduated high school in Inglewood, California.

In 1950, she came to Brown County and settled at Hamlin where she married Edward “Junior” Meyer, August 12, 1950, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairview.  They farmed and raised livestock north of Hiawatha nearly all of their married life.  She was truly a farmers’ wife:  she did whatever was needed to do: help hay, do chores, drive truck or tractor, etc.  They retired to Fairview in 1989.  He died November 20, 2002.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; two daughters:  Janice Meyer as an infant, Jeannine “Sue” Simpson; and a brother David Brown of Oklahoma City.

Jeanne was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Fairview, where she was a member of the Dorcas Society.  Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, visiting with friends and family, and home making.

Survivors include a son Matthew Meyer of Fairview; three grandchildren:  Jami (Jeremy) Hodge, Travis (Holly) Simpson, Tami (Chris) Lehmkuhl; 6 great-grandchildren:  Jacob, Justin, and Jordan Hodge, Schuyler Rosenberger, Dalton Lehmkuhl, and Madison (Richard) Hargett; and a great-great-grandson Grayson Hargett.  Also surviving are a sister Berniece Lou “Becey” Harris of Simi Valley, CA; and a brother Gerald Brown of Torrance, CA.

Cremation is planned with a memorial Celebration of Life Service planned for 11 a.m. Monday, October 23, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha, with Rev. Michael Dunaway officiating.  Private family inurnment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.

The family will meet with friends from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
