Ruth A. Stein, 81,  long-time business women of Atchison, KS, died Monday, July 25, 2016 at the Atchison Senior Village.

Graveside services and burial will be 1:00 pm on Sunday, July 31st, 2016 at Mt. Olive, Troy, KS.  The family will receive friends following the service for a reception and farewell Celebration of Ruth’s Life at Jerry’s Again, 125 N. 5th St, Atchison KS from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. Memorial contributions are suggested to Achievement Services or NEKS Hospice and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home who is handling the arrangements.  Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.

Ruth was born on July 14th, 1935 in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of Bernard and Lizzie (Gerardy) Martin. She graduated from Atchison High School in 1953. Ruth was a long-time business women in Atchison, the CEO of Fred Stein Laboratories, Inc., Co-owner of Elegance Revisited, Executive Director for Cray Museum, and in her early years worked in banking at City National Bank, the State Bank of Lancaster, and Commerce Savings and Loan.  She was a member of the First Christian Church, the Bellevue County Club, and Salvation Army Board of Directors, served on the Board of Directors for the Atchison Area Chamber of Commerce, and as Co-Chair for the Amelia Earhart Festival Luncheon for nine years.

Ruth was married to Armin Soph, Jr on Jan. 16, 1958 and they divorced in 1972. She was married to Frederick Stein, Jr on July 12, 1980.  Mr. Stein preceded her in death on April 17, 1985. Survivors include her daughter, Allison (Bob) Campbell, Atchison, KS, two step daughters, Elizabeth “Libby” (Roger) Schmanke, Topeka, KS and Margaret “Margy” Stein, Los Angeles, CA, a brother, Raymond (Linda) Martin, Maple Valley, WA, and three grandchildren, Courtney (Mark) Harper, Topeka, KS, Rachel Schmanke, Topeka, KS and Catherine Campbell, Atchison, KS and a great granddaughter Rylie Schmanke, Topeka, KS.  Her parents, husband Frederick, brother Eugene Martin, and sister Lois Martin preceded her in death.
