William H. “Bill” Grippin, Jr., 68 of Atchison, KS died Friday, April 29th, 2016 at Mosaic Life Care, St. Joseph, MO.


Memorial services will be 10:30 am on Thursday, May 5th, 2016 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Pastor Stephen Lucas officiating.  Burial of the cremated remains will follow in the Cummings Cemetery, Cummings, KS.  The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Wednesday, May 4th, 2016 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the “Save the Salt” or the Salvation Army, Atchison  and may be sent in care of the funeral home.  Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.

Bill was born on Feb. 7, 1948 in Atchison, Kansas the son of William H. “Bill”  and Edith Lorraine (Evans) Grippin, Sr.  He graduated from Atchison High School in 1966. He began as a driver for his dad, “Bills Transfer & Storage Company, Atchison. He later worked for Luxra Company, then Holton Transport, Power River, and last as an office technician for Cardox-Air Liquide. After retiring he drove rock trucks for Jodi Servaes.  Mr. Grippin was a member of the Atchison River Rods, the Eagles, Utah Salt Flat Association, the Pineview Country Club, the National Street Rod Association and the Good Guys Car Club. Bill loved to work on old cars and trucks, he loved racing at the Bonneville Salt Flats, drag racing, big semi custom trucks, and enjoyed driving in the mountains, and especially being with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bill was married to Donna Bomberger on Dec. 2, 1966 at the First Christian Church, Atchison KS.  Mrs. Grippin survives of the home. Additional survivors include his father, William H. “Bill” Grippin, Sr., Atchison KS, a son:  William “Doug” (Sandy) Grippin,  Cummings, KS, a daughter: Kim (Brad) Bottorff, Atchison , KS, a brother: Robert (Linda) Grippin, Atchison , KS, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  His mother, and a sister, Joyce Grippin preceded him in death.
