Troy, KS

Blanche Davis, 93 of Troy entered her Heavenly home Sunday, November 29, 2015. Blanche was born September 19, 1922 in Powhattan, Kansas to Walter T. and Lillian Thomas Hinkle. She attended grade school at District 44 in Brown County, Kansas, high school at Fairview, Kansas, and graduated in 1940. She was a student for one year at Colorado A & M in Ft. Collins, Colorado. After the attack on Pearl Harbor Blanche worked as a Civil Service employee, in Washington, DC two years, at an air field in Fairbanks, Alaska one year, then an air field in Puerto Rico for six months. She began nurses training in 1952 at St. Luke’s Hospital, and graduated with honors in 1955. Blanche worked at the Horton Hospital, Horton, Kansas for about ten years as an RN.

On February 15, 1965 she married Leroy A. Davis, a Baptist minister, in Augusta, Kansas. They made their home in Troy. Leroy preceded Blanche on January 13, 2000. Blanche was a member of the First Baptist Church of Troy, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Bible School faithfully, many years. She was also a member of the American Baptist Women’s Ministry for many years. She served as Spiritual Life Chairman of the William Carey Association American Baptist Women for awhile. Blanche was camp nurse for American Baptist Camps, Bible Memory Camps and Child Evangelism Camps for ten years. She has been a guest speaker at various churches throughout the years, sharing her Christian testimony. Perhaps her greatest accomplishment in life was that of a Prayer Warrior. She took many a prayer request to God’s throne, and her prayers will be sorely missed.

Blanche was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Monte, Blaine and Gale Hinkle, and by a sister Edith Dennis. Survivors include a brother Lee Hinkle of Horton, Kansas; foster daughters Rebecca Harris and Ann Dowdy, both of Bakersfield California, nieces, nephews, and her caregivers Virginia and Ken Winder who loved caring for her.
