Gene Killoren

Gene L. Killoren, 67, of rural Powhattan, went home to be with Jesus, Tuesday afternoon, May 19, 2015, at Mosiac Life Center in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Gene was born October 12, 1947, at Wichita, Kansas, the son of George and Elsie McLaughlin Killoren and was a lifelong resident of this area.  He attended Powhattan school later graduating with the class of 1965 at Powhattan High School.  He loved playing football, basketball, and was catcher for the American Legion Post #66 baseball team, in Hiawatha.  Gene was a soil conservation contractor, working for various farmers in the Brown County area for 44 years, before retiring in 2007. 

Gene was a member of the Powhattan United Methodist Church where he served as Trustee and Sunday school teacher.  The last several years, he attended the First Baptist Church of Hiawatha.  He was a member of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International and had served as chapter president and field representative.  He loved to travel the United States.  For many years, he raised exotic birds and animals, enjoyed hunting and blue rock shooting.  He and his family took care of the records for Powhattan Cemetery for many years, assuming the responsibilities from his Dad.

He married Patsy Hildwein, at the Powhattan United Methodist Church, September 3, 1966.  She survives.

Also surviving are a daughter Gina Killoren of Hiawatha, a son, Craig (Ashley) Killoren of Powhattan, and special dog Whang Su; four grandchildren that were his pride and joy:  Dillon, Skylur, Brandon, and Elizabeth.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation is planned with a celebration of Gene’s life scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center, with Reverend Bob Whitaker officiating. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services at Church.
