The National Weather Service says the Grassland Fire Danger Index will be in the Extreme category today for areas of far southwest Iowa, eastern and southeastern Nebraska. That includes Richardson, Pawnee, Nemaha, Johnson, and Gage Counties.
The extreme fire danger means that fires can start and spread quickly. All outdoor burning should be avoided in areas with extreme fire danger.
A Red Flag Warning is in effect from 10 this (Tuesday) morning until 7 this evening for all of northeast, east central, and central Kansas.
A Red Flag Warning means that a combination of dry fuels, strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures, will create the potential for explosive fire growth.
Today’s weather forecast calls for sunny conditions with gusty south to southwest winds and temperatures in the 70s. There is a chance of precipitation in the forecast for Wednesday and Wednesday night.
