A Netawaka man is running for Jackson County sheriff in his first bid at political office.
54-year-old Robert “ Bob” McNicholas filed this week on the Republican ticket.
McNicholas majored in criminal justice while serving in the military and is currently a truck driver. He has lived in Jackson County since 1987.

McNicholas says he’s being backed by former sheriff Charles Cornell, who is serving as his campaign treasurer...( play audio: 13 secs)

Current Sheriff Tim Morse, a Democrat, filed last month for election. Morse was appointed as sheriff last April following the resignation of Cornell.
Candidates have until noon, June 1st to file.
