Two Atchison residents will vie for a vacant Atchison City Commissioner spot Monday afternoon at the next Atchison City Commission meeting.
Jack Bower and Kay Greenly were the citizens that submitted letters of interest before the noon filing deadline Wednesday.
Greenly has been an Atchison resident for the past 38 years and has spent a majority of her career in the private sector, working in the areas insurance and human resources.
She also served three terms on the USD 409 school board.
Bower has been in retail business for a majority of his professional career, serving as a past Senior Vice President and General Manager of Pamida.
Bower previously served on the city commission from April 2009 until April 2011.
Currently, Bower teaches business classes at Benedictine college and owner of Amazing Deals.
Commissioners will appoint one of those candidates, with City Attorney J. David Ferris holding a tie-breaker vote, if necessary.
The seat opened up upon the resignation of Andrew Werring last week.
Werring cited expansion of his law practice and desire to spend more time with family as his reasoning behind his resignation.
