Demolition Permit to be Issued Wednesday for Bartlett Grain
01/18/2012

In a 30 minute meeting of the Atchison City Commissioners with light action, the largest chunk of information was a large one.

City Manager Trey Cocking says they will be issuing a permit to begin the demolition process for the Bartlett Grain elevators.

Cocking  RT: :13 OC: "…by March 1st."
Currently, Bartlett plans to rebuild the elevators.

Commissioners also heard from Pastor Jim Hendon during the regular public forum.

Hendon expressed his desire for the current traffic lights in question on 4th and main and on Kansas Avenue to be changed to a four way stop.

City Manager Trey Cocking will be on KAIR Radio’s Morning Show January 31st to discuss the matter with the public.

In other action, commissioners approved the authorization for Cocking to sign the capital improvement submissions to the FAA for the Amelia Earhart Airport four to one with Commissioner Larry Purcell voting nay.

The planned parallel taxiway may have to be removed; however, the t-structures for the taxiway will still be re-structured.

A new airport layout funding may not be available until October, so land acquisitions for the next years plan will not start until after that.

Commissioners also approved an additional 16 thousand 749 dollars for head shaft assembly for the raw water intake after an underestimate was made last month.

They unanimously approved a contract with Ace Pipe Cleaning to haul bio-solids to agricultural sites for six cents a gallon not to exceed 50 thousand.

The Commission also approved a cereal malt beverage license to the future location of The Mighty Mo, located at the former Flyer’s restaurant four to zero with Commissioner Purcell abstaining.

Andrew Campbell and Matt Buchanan were unanimously approved to serve unexpired terms on the park board.

Commissioners will also meet on Tuesday, February 21st at noon so they can attend the state chamber dinner on February 20th.
