U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, Friday, spent time in the local area, addressing civic groups while visiting local schools, including Hiawatha.

Moran, a proponent for local control when it comes to education decisions, wants to see a scaled back federal approach when it comes to the needs of local students(Play Audio 35 secs)
Included amongst the ways to remove federal interference in local education is either abolishing, or at least revamping, the controversial No Child Left Behind legislation(Play Audio 31 secs)
Moran says he's seen firsthand the negative affects the federal legislation has on the classroom; or, as he puts it, the time it takes away from the classroom(Play Audio 32 secs)
This is the year that No Child Left Behind is up for debate, and subject to re-authorization; and, Moran says that's one of the key reasons for his visits to local classrooms, arming himself with the ideas
shared by local educators, to take back to Washington D.C., as he works to restore local control to public education.
