Good news for local travelers, as the Kansas Department of Transportation plans completion of a bridge project, on a major travel route, this week.
According to spokeswoman Kim Qualls, the new U.S. 36 Bridge, spanning Walnut Creek in Brown County, will be allowed to fully open by late Thursday afternoon.
Qualls says mild winter weather, and efforts of the contractor, allowed for quick completion.
Once open, crews will continue to conduct finishing work, but existing traffic signals will be removed, the lane width restriction lifted, and the route opened to all motorists.
