The Kansas Department of Transportation and the Kansas Highway Patrol have a message for those enjoying this year’s Super Bowl Sunday: Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving.
Football fans across the country will celebrate America’s most watched sporting event, Super Bowl LII on Sunday, Feb. 4, featuring the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots. For many, that celebration will include alcoholic beverages.
“As many people gather to watch the Super Bowl this weekend, the Kansas Highway Patrol encourages fans to ensure they are making responsible choices to get to their destination safely,” said KHP public information officer Lt. Adam Winters. “Ensure you have a sober, designated driver lined up ahead of time, utilize ride sharing services, or make arrangements to stay with friends or family. This is a day to celebrate, and we don’t want it to end in tragedy.”
The Kansas Initiative is part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s annual campaign on Super Bowl Sunday. The game plan includes not only planning ahead, but having safe options if someone drops the ball. “Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk,” is their message.
Helping to tackle drunk driving, law enforcement officers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers across the state. Have a plan to prevent ending up with a penalty and use this playbook for a win:
-
Plan on drinking alcohol? Plan on NOT driving.
-
Use a cab or ride-share services.
-
Hosting a party? Be responsible for guests, ask if they have a safe ride home.
-
Don’t ever get in a vehicle with someone who is impaired.
-
Buckle up, every trip, every time.
Enjoy this year’s Super Bowl LII and remember, “Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk.”
