New Life for Hiawatha Motel Being Planned
10/31/2016

(KNZA)--A Lincoln, Nebraska-based company is looking at purchasing and renovating a Hiawatha motel .

Hiawatha City Administrator Mike Nichols says BARK Hospitality, L.L.C. wants to utilize industrial revenue bonds for the purchase and renovation of the Hiawatha Lodge and Gateway Inn on South First Street.

The Hiawatha City Commission will hold a public hearing during their November 7th meeting to consider the issuance of up to $1.5 million in IRB's for the project.   Issuance of the bonds would not financially obligate the city.

Nichols says the company has been in contact with local banks and has expressed a strong desire for their involvement in the community.

He says both facilities would carry a nationally recognized hotel/motel name.

Nichols adds the city is excited about the possible rejuvenation of the property.
