(KAIR)--A Topeka man, who sparked a manhunt after allegedly fleeing from Jackson County authorities, is now in custody.
Sheriff Tim Morse says the search for 42-year-old Benjamin Braden followed the report of a Sunday morning domestic altercation.
Morse says that happened around 9:00, in the driveway of an abandoned residence in the 12000 block of 134th Road, allegedly involving Braden and a woman.
According to Morse, she left the scene on foot to get help, while Braden fled behind the wheel of a Dodge Intrepid that Morse says investigators later learned had been stolen from Nemaha County.
That discovery was made after deputies found the car east of T. Road, on 134th Road, where Braden apparently abandoned it in order to flee on foot.
Jackson County Deputies were joined in their search for his whereabouts by Potawatomi Tribal Police, the Kansas Highway Patrol, and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, which assisted the search through the use of K-9 officers that led to Braden.
Morse says he was found hiding in a hay barn, about a half-mile south of 142nd Road, east of T. Road.
Braden was arrested around 12:15 Sunday afternoon and transported to the Holton Community Hospital for the treatment of injuries associated with his capture by a K-9 officer.
Following his release, Braden was booked into the Jackson County Jail, where he's held on charges of possession of stolen property and criminal threat. Morse says additional charges are possible, and Braden is also wanted on multiple outstanding warrants from across the State of Kansas.
