(KNZA)--A Hiawatha man facing charges in a Brown County child abuse case will stand trial.

25-year-old Frankie Rodriquez waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday and was bound over to Brown County District Court on one count each of aggravated battery and felony child abuse.

Arraignment was scheduled for November 7th.

Rodriquez was arrested late last month following an investigation by the Hiawatha Police Department and Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

The investigation was launched after a two-year-old girl was brought to the Hiawatha Community Hospital on August 26th with a severe head injury.  The child was later flown to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.

Brown County Attorney Kevin Hill says the victim remains in serious condition in the hospital.

Rodriquez is currently being held in the Shawnee County Jail on other charges and was transported to Brown County for the hearing Wednesday.  His bond on the Brown County charges is set at $500,000.
