(KAIR)--A public hearing, focused on Westar Energy's request to rebuild a transmission line locally, will be held Thursday.
According a press release issued by the Kansas Corporation Commission, which is hosting the hearing, it will begin that evening at 6:00 at the Riverfront Community Center, in Leavenworth.
Westar is proposing a more powerful line to replace the one built in the 1980s, which connects the Stranger Creek substation to an interface point near the Missouri River, north of Leavenworth.
Thursday evening's hearing is intended to provide residents with the opportunity to learn more about the project and to provide input regarding the proposed location of the new line.
Westar staff will be in attendance, beginning at 4:00 Thursday afternoon, to answer questions posed by landowners.
The KCC is accepting public comment on the proposal through September 29.
A decision from the Commission is expected by December 22.
If approved, the project would be completed prior to December 2018.
