(KNZA)--An Ozawkie man accused of opening fire with a handgun while driving in Holton last October has pleaded no contest to reduced charges.
24-year-old Joshua Myers entered the plea last week in Jackson County District Court to charges of aggravated assault and criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied dwelling, cancelling a three-day jury trial that had been set to begin September 13th.
Sentencing was set for September 23rd.
Myers had originally been charged with attempted second-degree murder.
Authorities say Myers fired at handgun from his vehicle at another man who was standing across the street from him at the intersection of 5th and Arizona the evening of October 23rd. The intended victim was not hurt.
Myers was arrested about 10 minutes later in Denison by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department after fleeing the scene.
He remains free on bond.
