(KNZA)--A rural Netawaka man has been sentenced to nearly 19 years in prison on a charge of rape.
Jackson County Attorney Shawna Miller tells MSC News that 37-year-old Scott Buchheit was handed the sentence Friday after a judge denied his motion to withdraw his no contest plea in the case.
Buchheit entered the plea in February as part of a plea deal just before he was scheduled to go on trial on 11 counts.
In his motion, he cited ineffective counsel and stated he was “ under psychological pressure” to make the deal.
Miller says Buchheit will be required to register as a sex offender and be subject to post release supervision for the remainder of his life.
He was arrested in February of last year following an investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department into alleged sex offenses involving an underage girl occurring between March 2008 and January 2015.
