(KLZA)-- The Falls City Board of Education has set public hearings for the budget and property tax request for the next fiscal year for September 12 at 7 p-m.
Superintendent Tim Heckenlively told MSC News he anticipates from the preliminary budget numbers, the property tax levy increase should be lower than it has been in recent years. While that is good news, Heckenlively says most farmers he has talked with indicate their property valuations increased.
In other business the Board approved a 3.6-percent wage increase for classified employees for the 2016-17 school year.
Heckenlively also updated Board members on summer maintenance projects, noting the ag shop roof project is completed with the new LED lighting installed in the ag and welding shop.
Heckenlively also noted that many Nebraska superintendents received a public records request from the ACLU of Nebraska. The organization is doing a statewide survey of school practices related to sex education and pregnant or parenting students. District 56 has responded to the request after legal counsel said they believe it to be a valid public records request requiring a prompt response.
