07/11/2016

(KMZA)--The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has awarded waste tire recycling grants to several local recipients.

Vermillion USD 380 has been awarded a nearly $16,000 grant for the purchase of more than 39,00 square-feet of track surfacing for the Frankfort High School track.

The city of Frankfort has been awarded a nearly $3,600 grant for the purchase of six park benches and 8 picnic tables--including two ADA tables--for the Frankfort City Park.

Doniphan County will receive a more than $800 grant for the purchase of six park benches for the Doniphan County Courthouse.

The annual solid waste grants are awarded to municipalities and school districts across the state.  KDHE awarded fifty-one grants totaling nearly $458,000 for 2016.

The waste tire recycling grants go toward funding safe surfacing at playgrounds, running tracks, picnic tables and benches made from waste tires.

The grants are funded through a 25-cent tax paid on the purchase of new tires.
