Numerous Ball Proposals In Missouri
12/31/2015

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Missouri voters might face a ballot with several proposals on a wide range of issues in next year's election.

More than 170 proposed ballot referenda were submitted to state officials by mid-December. The deadline for proposals promoted through public petition drives is May 8.

The number of proposals already submitted easily beats the record of 143 submitted for the entire 2012 presidential election cycle, although most of the petition-driven ballot proposals are unlikely to make it through the process needed to get on the ballot.

The proposed ballot initiatives include efforts to improve political ethics rules, reduce marijuana penalties and raise the state minimum wage. Others seek to increase tobacco taxes, permanently freeze other taxes and reduce the size of the Legislature.
