Victim Named, Second Shooting Suspect Arrested
12/30/2015

(KMZA)--A second arrest is made, and new details emerge, following a Tuesday afternoon Pottawatomie County shooting that sent a man to the hospital.

Arrested hours after the shooting was 18-year-old Dakota Fair, of Louisville, held in the County Jail for attempted murder.

Joining him in custody is 21-year-old Melissa Umscheid, a rural Wamego resident who faces a charge of criminal solicitation.

Sheriff Greg Riat says the victim is now publicly identified as 23-year-old Westmoreland resident Tyrel Britton. He was flown to a Topeka hospital for treatment following the shooting that investigators say happened on Mount Zion Road in rural Saint George.

Riat says the investigation now reveals that two vehicles were involved in the shooting. That includes a blue 2001 Buick LeSabre driven by Fair, and a 1992 Chevy Pickup driven by Britton. Riat says it's alleged that both men knew each other prior to the shooting, which the investigation reveals happened when Fair fired a gun from his car at Britton's truck. It's believed that Umscheid was a passenger in Fair's car.

Riat says that happened around 4:30 Tuesday afternoon in the area south of Highway 24 and Flush Road, with both vehicles then leaving that scene and traveling to an area west of Lake Elbo Road on Mount Zion Road. It was there that a nearby resident spotted Britton walking while bleeding around 5:00.

Riat says no additional suspects are currently being sought as the investigation continues.
