Jackson Park Trail Approved
12/28/2015

(KAIR)--A mountain bike trail is set to be put in place at Atchison's Jackson Park.

That follows this week's approval of the project by the Atchison City Commission.

Included as part of their consent agenda, the Commission accepted the donation of the trail from the non-profit Kansas Trails Council.

The organization will provide what's called a “Trail In a Box” kit, with volunteers to conduct the labor.

The approval follows interest in the trail voiced to the City last month by Dr. Larissa Rice, who has already conducted the leg work on designing the trail, which will utilize an existing location, at the park.

According to City Staff documents, the trail, to be used for both hiking and biking, will be located near the paved trail that sits east of the park's Guerrier Hill.

Volunteer work is likely to begin sometime this winter.
