(KNZA)--The Brown County Commission has approved a contract with a Manhattan engineering firm to conduct the county’s 2016 bridge inspections.
The agreement approved Monday with BG Consultants is for the inspection of 206 bridges—including 16 fracture critical bridges.
The firm will charge $96 per bridge, except for the fracture critical ones, which require a more extensive inspection. Those will cost an hourly rate.
The county’s fracture critical bridges must be inspected every year, with a less stringent inspection every odd year. The others must be inspected every two years.
In other business, the Commission approved a purchase order for a new pickup truck for the sheriff’s department.
The Department will purchase a 2016 Ford F-150 XL crew cab pickup from Hiawatha Ford for $25,992 with the trade-in of two 2009 Ford Crown Victoria’s.
Sheriff John Merchant says he expects delivery of the new pickup around the end of the year or first part of next year.
And the Commission accepted the lone bid received from the Horton Headlight to serve as the official county newspaper for 2016. The newspaper will charge $2.00 per column inch for the publication of legal notices for the county, which is the same rate they charged this year.
